13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi - Boon's Stunt HK417 Sniper Rifle
A prop sniper rifle used in the production of Michael Bay’s explosive action biopic 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. Tasked with protecting CIA personnel in Libya after the Arab Spring, a team of military contractors find themselves without support in a battle for survival against an army of militants.
Used by the team’s elite sniper “Boon” (David Denman), this rifle was used throughout the defence of the CIA “Annex” compound after the rescue effort at the Ambassador’s special mission compound. Made of soft foam rubber for stunt sequences, the weapon is cast from a real HK417 rifle and features intricate detail on the buttstock, receiver and muzzle. A rubber scope is fitted on the rail at the top of the weapon, with metal rails running along the sides. Given a desert camouflage paint finish, the weapon has paint scuffs at the front of the top rail, indicating that the weapon was used for the night battle sequences as only those weapons were fitted with the CNVD night scope attachment, which along with the Harris bipod is no longer present.
Displaying some wear to the paint finish from use on the production, there is a tear in the scope mount from use in the intense action sequences in the film. However, in spite of this wear, the weapon remains in overall good condition.
